29. Has Cheshire markings on her left leg. Some shade of blond.
Alice Purcell was born in Oxford to abusive parents who could not stand her being different (beatings whenever something unnatural happened, calling her a freak, weird and wrong, and her mother went so far as to claim that dogs were more human than her). She was placed in the foster system at a young age (my best estimate is 5 years of age), coming to a foster home in Merseyside. Almost upon arrival, she got into a fight with the boy who "ruled" the place on the children's side, from which both came out much worse for the wear - but something very nice came out of it for Alice: A friend (likely the first that she'd ever had). Suzan was a few years older than her and the first person to show acceptance to her.
But then the Riggers showed up in the foster home, and though Alice didn't understand what was happening, she could feel that something was wrong - and storming into the principal's office, she found a boy obviously hurting Suzan. She stormed in and pulled Suzan away from the boy, shouting for him to get away - and the emotional outburst opened a portal to Wonderland, and both girls were sucked into it, appearing halfway up a giant tree on the other side. While Suzan safely hit a giant mushroom, Alice fell all the way to the ground and got fatally injured-
and had the great luck to be found by a group of three Cheshire Cats who decided to each give one of their lives to her, both so she wouldn't die before even starting her journey as Alice and to have an alliance with her, which would piss off the Queen. And then Alice was basically raised by Cheshire Cats from the age of 7, which makes her identify as a Cheshire Cat to this day (she has a Cheshire mum, too, by the name of Wani & she sometimes does the Cheshire appear halfway & grin thing). Having the Cheshire lives in her also makes her part-Wonderlander, which means that she can still open portals even after having completed her story.
Later, she returned to our Earth and joined Calliope, the organization that supports and trains Namesakes like her and does damage control on their side effects and fights ghosts. There was an incident in which her then-girlfriend Vanessa joined the allegedly opposing faction "the Rippers", tried to steal an item from Calliope and in the process got killed by Alice, who after sacrificed one of her lives to return Vanessa to life. She is currently located somewhere in the middle of its hierarchy and counted as "Elite". Alice's still good friends with Suzan (who runs a bar called Cheshire Grin at Calliope) and regularly returns to her Cat family in Wonderland. She lives together with fellow Namesake Wendy Shepard, but they are only roommates, not dating (Alice's relationship status is "Looking. I buy cute ladies drinks." ...well, there *is* that mutual crush on Selva after they get to Calliope)
Life count:
- 1 original one upon arriving in Wonderland
+ 3
- 1 to Vanessa
__
2 lives
- Opening Portals (magical connections between two places) - She can open portals only to or from Wonderland, so portal trips with Alice will always include running a few metres through Wonderland. Opening portals in a world where there is no background-magic that she could use for it is exhausting because she needs to use her own energy for it.
- Sword fighting (she was taught by the card soldiers in Wonderland).
- Can talk to Earth cats.
- Autotranslating the languages of all Namesake (non-Earth) worlds.
- Cheshire (partly) dis- and reappearing/hanging in the air, complete with the grin: It's explained as transmission and liquidifying your body. She can't do it nearly as often as a regular Cheshire, though.
- can use and learn magic. Her sources for magic are either her own energy when in a non-magical world or the ethereal power around her in a magical world. In a jamjar setting this should mean that she would be able to adapt magical techniques in a way that she could do - but it would take a while, and she would not be able to do much of it unless the world itself has an ethereal background because recharging in our world happens very slowly. (She is also unlikely to consider it worth the effort to start with, but that's on another page.)
- She owns a deck of card soldiers - cards that turn into people when called. They will return to the deck when injured (though they can be destroyed if they don't return in time), speak only Wonderlandish and will follow the orders of the person that the scissormen gave the cards to (in this case that are Alice and another Namesake named Jack). Card soldiers are created by the scissormen and lack any individuality. The five of hearts isn't in the deck right now (long story). The weapon type depends on the card: Heart soldiers fight with sword or daggers, Diamond with lances, Clubs with clubs and bows and Spades with shields and magic.
- Sword - a small penchant on a necklace in the form of a sword that she can turn into a vorpal blade. It's made from willmetal, which absorbs magic and is fuelled by feelings/willpower. It's strength and sharpness is reliant on the will of the wielder: If the will is strong, it can cut through anything, but if (even subconsciously) the owner doesn't want to cut someone, it won't cut. Each vorpal blade makes a sound, and since hers is the original Alice's, it goes snicker-snack.
- Her Calliope badge.
